Tennessee: Your Help is Needed to Prevent Localities From Opting Out of Right-to-Carry Reform!Tennessee: Your Help is Needed to Prevent Localities From Opting Out of Right-to-Carry Reform!', 'Tennessee: Your Help is Needed to Prevent Localities From Opting Out of Right-to-Carry Reform!Friday, July 10, 2009 Please Contact Your Local Officials in Opposition! Several Tennessee counties and municipalities are in the process of opting out of the new park carry law as passed by the General Assembly during the 2009 session, which has an effective date of Tuesday, September 1. Please look over the list of counties and municipalities below to see if your local government is trying to prevent permit holders from legally carrying a firearm in local parks, because this might affect a park or parks that you visit. If your county or municipality is listed, please contact your local officials and respectfully ask them not to create a confusing patchwork of laws that will close off local parks to law-abiding permit holders who simply wish to be able to protect themselves and their families. We also recommend calling your local government even if it is not listed as having an ordinance, resolution or hearing scheduled, to ensure that your local government understands that your rights should not be infringed. The best way to get your opinions through to local officials is to contact them immediately. Please encourage fellow permit holders and Second Amendment supporters to contact local officials as well. We encourage you to attend any hearings in support of our Second Amendment rights. Many counties and municipalities are expected to opt out by resolution, so more than likely those in attendance will be unable to speak directly to commission or council members during the meetings, but may be afforded the opportunity to express opposition beforehand or afterwards. Please continue to visit www.NRAILA.org for further updates. If you have any information on Tennessee counties and municipalities taking steps to opt out of this important self-defense law, please contact NRA-ILA’s State and Local Affairs Division.
